This exquisite vessel by Dan Bergsma is a prime example of the marriage 
of two glass working skills- the precise blowing of the vessel itself, and the exacting 
technique of sandblasting with the use of resists. In this procedure, rubber "templates” are 
accurately cut and applied to the cooled blown glass vessel. Very fine sand is propelled at 
pressure to achieve a frosted look- anywhere the piece is not protected by the rubber pattern, 
or "resist”. You can see that this particular "Southwest Sandblasted Vessel" is the work 
of a very talented glassblower at the pinnacle of his skills.
